Mentoring sessions in Textiles

 

These monthly sessions are suitable for those who work with in the textiles / mixed media fields, at an advanced level .It is an opportunity to gain continual professional development, to challenge and stimulate new ways of thinking within your own personal practice. During the sessions, you will be encouraged to bring in and discuss ongoing work or to explore new lines of research.  Please note this is not a technique led course, but will provide support, advice and possible suggestions of routes to investigate, through one-to-one mentoring and peer feedback.

An integral part of these sessions is the group tutorials, during which you will be encouraged to challenge and be challenged. Presentation of your work to the group will be an important part of the course.  Although there are no taught techniques, you will have set challenges, through research or practical outcomes that will push you to experiment and develop a personal expression and identity within your work. Drawing and observation will be encouraged to help make new discoveries.

Your tutor will guide, mentor and give constructive feedback, through one-to-one tutorials.   If a skills gap is identified, then the tutor will also provide guidance on appropriate techniques and processes.    Liaison with the tutor for required materials such as screens, machines, printmaking equipment, or any other requests should be made prior to that session, to accommodate your needs.

The workshops will be an opportunity for you to examine the theory behind your work as well as the methodology. If deemed appropriate participants will be encouraged to work collaboratively.  As part of WSTA curriculum, you will have the opportunity to exhibit your body of work at the end of year exhibition in July .
